TV channels South Korea
Korean television moves fast: three big national broadcasters from Seoul, an unusually strong bench of rolling-news channels, two screens devoted to K-pop, home shopping around the clock and a regional network that reaches into provincial cities like Andong and Cheongju.
The national broadcasters
SBS - Seoul Broadcasting System - is one of South Korea's three major national broadcasters, carrying drama series, entertainment shows and news to the whole country. MBC joins it with news, dramas and entertainment, and JTBC adds its own news and entertainment line-up. KBS World TV is the international service - a gateway to Korean entertainment, news and culture for viewers around the globe - while KBS News carries the public broadcaster's news service. KTV adds government and public information programming.
News around the clock
Korean rolling news is a genre of its own. YTN is the pioneer of 24-hour Korean news television, Yonhap News TV is the channel of the country's news agency, MBCNEWS extends the MBC newsroom, and SBS News delivers headlines and current affairs. YTN dmb - a terrestrial DMB subsidiary of YTN - keeps the news stream going on a second screen.
K-pop and international screens
Arirang TV brings Korean culture, news and entertainment to an international audience. Music television belongs to K-Pop 24 TV - the K-pop channel of the SBS M family - and The K-POP2, both devoted to the vibrant world of Korean pop.
Regions and shopping
Andong MBC is the regional station of the MBC network for Andong and the northern North Gyeongsang region, broadcasting local news, culture and entertainment. CJB is the regional broadcaster of Cheongju and North Chungcheong province, the SBS network's affiliate for the region. Hmall Tv - the home shopping channel of Hyundai Home Shopping - broadcasts live shopping programs with fashion, beauty, home goods and food, and CBS TV - the television service of the Christian Broadcasting System, Korea's pioneering Christian broadcaster - and CTS, a Korean Christian network from Seoul, and GOODTV complete the religious side.
