TV channels Greece
Few countries broadcast as locally as Greece. Almost every island group, mountain province and second city runs its own television newsroom, and that regional layer sits beside the public broadcaster ERT with its family of national channels and the private networks of Athens. What follows runs from the provinces inward, then out again to the parliament, the church and the music studios.
Islands, provinces and second cities
Crete alone has two screens: TV Creta, the regional television of the island broadcasting from Heraklion, and CreteTV. Aeolos TV speaks for Mytilene and Lesbos, Corfu TV News for Corfu, Samiaki TV for Samos and Syros TV 1 for Syros in the Cyclades. On the mainland, Lepanto TV covers Nafpaktos on the Gulf of Corinth, West Channel broadcasts from Kozani for Western Macedonia, Epirus TV1 reports from Epirus and Thrakinet TV Channel from Thrace. TV 100 is Thessaloniki's municipal channel, Vergina TV and Egnatia Tileorasi look north, Delta TV serves the Evros region, and Acheloos TV, Mesogeios TV, Astra TV, Ionian Channel, Diktyo TV, Nea TV, Ena Channel, BEST TV, Extra TV and Blue Sky TV round out a regional map that reaches nearly every corner of the country.
ERT, the public family
ERT1 is the flagship channel of Ellinikí Radiofonía Tileórasi, carrying national news, drama, culture and sport. ERT2 adds a second national signal, and ERT3 is the public broadcaster's channel from Thessaloniki, giving northern Greece its own voice. ERT News runs rolling news, while ERT World takes Greek programming to audiences abroad.
The private networks of Athens
Alpha TV has been on air from Athens since 1993 as one of the country's national private channels, with drama, entertainment and news. SKAI TV built its reputation on news and current affairs, Mega TV is one of Greece's long-standing private networks, Kontra Channel and Action 24 add further general-interest signals, and Epsilon TV and TRT Greece broadcast from the provinces.
News, the parliament and the north-south Star signals
Euronews Greek delivers the European agenda in Greek, and Vouli Tileorasi is the channel of the Hellenic Parliament, broadcasting its sittings. Zougla TV brings the Athens news brand of the same name to the screen, and AchaiaNews reports from Achaia in the Peloponnese. Two regional Star-branded stations divide the map between them: Star Drámas for northern Greece and Star Kentrikis Elladas for the centre of the country.
Music
Mad TV is Greece's music channel, broadcasting from Athens with Greek and international hits, live sessions and music programming.
The church on screen
Lichnos TV is the television of the Metropolis of Patras, the Greek Orthodox diocese broadcaster. 4e Television and Voice of God GR add further religious programming to the Greek lineup.
