TV channels Tajikistan
Tajikistan's television grew out of the Soviet broadcasting system and still centers on the national state broadcaster, with sport and private entertainment filling out a small national field.
Televizioni Tojikiston: The National Broadcaster
Televizioni Tojikiston is the national broadcaster of Tajikistan, headquartered in Dushanbe. It began broadcasting on 3 November 1959, when the republic was still part of the Soviet Union, and was long known as Shabakai Yakum - the First Channel. It remains the backbone of national news and general programming in Tajik.
Varzish TV: Sport Around the Clock
Varzish TV is the Tajik sports channel, carrying Tajik and international sporting events twenty-four hours a day. Football dominates the schedule, but the channel follows the country's wider sporting life.
TV Safina: The Private Note
TV Safina brings general entertainment from the private side of Tajik television, balancing the state offering with music, shows and films for a national audience.
State heritage, nonstop sport and a private entertainment channel - that trio makes up the core of television in Tajikistan.
