TV channels Honduras
Honduran television runs on news and devotion in roughly equal measure. From Tegucigalpa come the national networks and the rolling-news channels; from the north coast and the provinces, a layer of regional stations; and across the dial, one of Central America's most crowded fields of religious broadcasting.
The News Tradition
Canal 6 Honduras - CBC - has run a 24-hour news operation from Tegucigalpa since 27 June 1997. Maya TV reaches the whole country by satellite and the five largest cities free-to-air, with a full newsroom behind its bulletins. HCH Televisión - Hable Como Habla - was founded in 2008 by Eduardo Maldonado and built its name on breaking news, reports and denuncia programming. And Abriendo Brecha is the institution: the telenoticiero created in 1988 by Rodrigo Wong Arévalo, carried over the decades by Telecadena and later TEN Canal 10, still on the air daily.
The National Networks
Televicentro HN is the Grupo Televicentro network - the country's commercial flagship, mixing news, entertainment and novelas. TV Azteca Honduras carries the Mexican network's programming to Honduran viewers. CCI Channel, on air since April 2006, reaches beyond Honduras by satellite and cable into El Salvador, Guatemala and Costa Rica.
Faith on the Air
JBN TV - the Jesus Broadcasting Network - has broadcast from Tegucigalpa on Canal 39 since 2000. Suyapa TV takes its name from the Virgin of Suyapa, the country's patroness. Dios Te Ve carries evangelical worship and teaching, with a children's arm, Dios Te Ve Kids, alongside; and Misión Tv builds its schedule on biblical teaching with an explicitly alternative, community-facing identity.
Music, Education and the Regions
SI TV is the music and youth screen. Campus Tv is the educational channel built for students from middle school through university. And the regions keep their own voices: TeleProgreso serving Yoro and the north from El Progreso, Teleceiba Canal 7 from La Ceiba, Ten Canal 10, and Globo TV Honduras with news and opinion.
News before breakfast, a novela at night and a sermon in between - Honduran TV stays close to the country's daily pulse.
