TV channels Switzerland
Swiss television is built like the country itself: one public broadcaster for three language regions, and beside it a dense mesh of city and canton stations.
German Switzerland: SRF and the City Channels
SRF 1 is the flagship of German-language public television and, for decades, the most-watched channel in this part of the country. Around it work the city and canton stations: TeleZüri covers Zurich and its agglomeration, TeleBärn the canton of Bern, and Telebasel, the country's oldest regional station, has broadcast from Basel since 1993. The CH Media group bundles Tele M1 (cantons of Aargau and Solothurn) and Tele 1 (Central Switzerland - Lucerne, Zug and the neighbouring cantons). German-language entertainment is completed by Schweiz 5, one of the few independent private channels, and SAT.1 - the German private channel of the ProSiebenSat.1 group, which has long operated with a Swiss advertising window.
French Switzerland: RTS and the Romand Privates
Public broadcasting in Romandy is carried by RTS 1, while RTS 2 takes over sport, culture and event programming. The local layer of French-language television is formed by La Télé of the cantons of Vaud and Fribourg, LFM TV from the Lake Geneva region and the entertainment channel Rouge TV.
The Italian South: TeleTicino
The Italian-speaking canton of Ticino is served by TeleTicino - the regional station with local news and programming for the country's south.
