TV channels Bangladesh
Bangladeshi television runs on news. Nearly every screen in the line-up is a Bengali-language satellite channel beaming rolling news from Dhaka, with a lone state world service and a sports-and-family favorite adding color to the grid.
The 24-Hour Bengali News Machine
Somoy TV - the name means time in Bengali - is one of the country's leading 24-hour news channels, on air since 17 April 2011 and owned by the City Group conglomerate. NTV, an acronym of National Television, launched on 2 July 2003 and stands among Bangladesh's most popular channels. Channel 24 started on 24 May 2012 as a mixed channel before turning fully to news. Jamuna TV, founded in 2014 by Nurul Islam Babul of the Jamuna Group, runs from the Jamuna Future Park complex. BanglaVision News carries the news arm of a channel whose very name blends bangla and television. ATN News dates back to 7 June 2010, the first contemporary news channel of its generation after the short-lived CSB News closed in 2007.
The State Window to the World
BTV World is the international satellite service of Bangladesh Television, the state broadcaster, launched on 11 April 2004 via AsiaSat to carry the country's programming to viewers beyond its borders.
Sport and Family Fare
Gazi Television - GTV - began broadcasting on 12 June 2012 from Segun Bagicha in Dhaka and belongs to the Gazi Group. It is the country's familiar screen for cricket, football and other sports, wrapped in news and family entertainment.
