TV channels Kenya
Kenya has one of Africa's liveliest television markets: national private broadcasters with strong newsrooms, vernacular-language stations for local communities, a youth channel and a pan-African news service.
The National News Broadcasters
Citizen TV is the free-to-air flagship of Royal Media Services, broadcasting primarily in English and Swahili since 1999, with news, current affairs and general entertainment. KTN News is the Standard Group's 24-hour news channel from Nairobi, built on national and world news, political talk and live event coverage. NTV Kenya, the Nation Media Group's channel, carries general entertainment alongside its news operation, and K24TV, launched by Mediamax Network in 2008, made its mark as the first Kenyan station to stream its broadcast live on the internet.
Vernacular and Youth Channels
Kenyan television speaks the country's languages. Kameme Tv is Mediamax's vernacular station for the Kikuyu-speaking audience, mixing news, music and cultural programming, while Kass TV serves the Kalenjin-speaking community with its own news and entertainment grid. Switch TV is the youth-oriented entertainment channel of the list, built around formats and talk for younger Kenyans.
A Continental Perspective
Two names widen the frame beyond Kenya's borders. Africa 24 is a pan-African, French-language 24/7 news network devoted to coverage of the continent, available across Sub-Saharan Africa. Ebru TV Kenya rounds out the picture with a general schedule of news, entertainment and culture.
