TV channels Jamaica
Jamaica is a small market with a loud television voice. Two national stations share the airwaves from Kingston, a cable newsroom works the day in headlines, and a church-built broadcaster carries the island's faith to the wider Caribbean.
The Two Nationals
Television Jamaica (TVJ) is the senior service: its history runs to 6 August 1963, when television reached Jamaica a year after independence as JBC Television. After the state broadcaster passed into private hands, the station was rebranded Television Jamaica in 1998 and now flies as the television flagship of the RJRGleaner Communications Group. Its grid holds the country's best-known local formats: the morning show Smile Jamaica, Prime Time News, the talk of All Angles and the long-running institution of Schools' Challenge Quiz. The second national is CVM Television, the 24-hour free-to-air station from Kingston mixing news, entertainment and sport with a shelf of original local productions covering current events, business and lifestyle.
The Cable Newsroom
JNN - the Jamaica News Network - was the island's first cable news channel, built around headline news on the hour and full news packages through the day. It keeps Jamaicans at home and abroad on top of the island's hour-by-hour story.
Faith and Community
MTM TV - Mercy and Truth Ministries TV - is Jamaica's Christian broadcaster and the largest Christian television network in the Caribbean, carrying worship and teaching from the island across the region. TVCARiB rounds the picture out with local and regional entertainment and community programming.
From breakfast television in Kingston to a hymn reaching the diaspora, Jamaican TV stays close to home and carries the island's accent with it.
