TV channels Austria
Austrian television pairs the public broadcaster's streaming service with commercial entertainment, news channels born from the country's biggest newspapers and a remarkably dense net of regional stations from Linz to Vienna.
National Television and Streaming
ORF-TVthek is the multimedia service of ORF, the Austrian public broadcaster, carrying its programs and live streams online. ATV Mediathek represents Austria's best-known commercial entertainment channel - ATV, now part of the Joyn family - with Vienna's easy-going entertainment programming. The country's tabloid press runs two television projects of its own: Oe24 TV, on air since 2016 with news from politics, sport and the digital world, and Krone TV, the video service of the Kronenzeitung, Austria's largest-circulation newspaper.
Citizen TV and Faith
oktoTV is a private station in Vienna committed to the participatory idea of citizen TV, where communities make their own programs. K-TV is the Catholic television station of the German-speaking world, loyal to the Roman Catholic Church, with liturgy, prayer and religious documentary programming.
Regional Channels Across Austria
Regional television is the biggest block of Austrian broadcasting. Upper Austria alone fields three: LT1 OÖ, the private regional station based in Linz and the province's largest private broadcaster, HT1 Hausruck for the Hausruckviertel around Vöcklabruck, and Mühlviertel TV for the granite highlands north of Linz. RTS Salzburg covers the city of Mozart and its surrounding Land. Vienna is served by the regional cable channel W24, by KT1 with its mix of culture, sport, economy, politics and news, and by TV21 Austria, founded in 2011 by Robert Ebhart as the Jedlersdorfer Rundschau before growing into a full city channel.
