LT1 OÖ is a private regional television station based in Linz, serving Upper Austria as the province's largest private broadcaster. Broadcasting in German, it reaches about 1.4 million people via satellite, cable, digital terrestrial and IPTV, and its live signal streams online.
From TV3 to Upper Austria's Largest Private Station
Private cable television became legal in Austria in 1996, and the licence for the Wels area went to Wolf Dieter Holzhey. In 2000 he acquired Privatfernsehen GmbH, which operated TV3, Linz's only local channel at the time, and relaunched it as LT1 in 2001, converting a weekly updated schedule into a daily one. Terrestrial transmission followed in 2003, extending coverage across eastern Upper Austria and into western Lower Austria, and the takeover of the Mühlviertel channel group MT1/FT1/RT1 added the northern districts. LT1 remains a partner station of Wels-based WT1, producing joint programming, and since 2007 its schedule has been led by Dietmar Maier, who also presents on air.
Programming: The Upper Austria Half-Hour
The station's core format is a 30-minute daily programme - OÖ Aktuell news for the province, refreshed each evening at 18:00 and repeated every half hour, complemented by the sports coverage of OÖ Fußball, the lifestyle magazine OÖ Life and the cooking show OÖ Kocht. Series and documentary strands include the comedy LT1 Fensterln, the ice-hockey series Black Wings Inside built around Linz's club, and Menschen und Marken, while the on-air team features presenters such as Silvia Schneider and Dietmar Maier.
