RTS 1 is the first of the two channels of Radio Television Suisse (RTS), the Swiss public broadcaster for French-speaking Romandy, the other being RTS 2. A national public generalist channel, it traces its origins to the Television genevoise launched in 1954.

Seventy Years of Romand Television

The channel became the Television suisse romande in 1954, aired advertising from 1965 and switched to colour in 1968. In 1984 the TSR was a founding member of the francophone international channel TV5. With the creation of a second channel in 1997 it became TSR 1, renamed RTS Un in February 2012 after the TSR-RSR merger, and RTS 1 in 2019.

The Grid of a Public Flagship

The day is anchored by the Telejournal news editions, with the investigative magazine Mise au point, the documentary strand Infrarouge, 36.9° and Passe-moi les jumelles, alongside fiction, sport and entertainment, broadcast live on rts.ch/play.
