Founded by Teletypos S.A., it launched on 20 November 1989 as the first private television station in Greece and is today owned by Alter Ego Media, headquartered on Syngrou Avenue in Kallithea, Athens.

Through the 1990s and 2000s the channel regularly achieved the top ratings spot in Greece.

Mega Classics brings back series from the channel's programme library from past decades.

Collapsed, Auctioned, and Back on Air

MEGA was removed from the Digea terrestrial platform on 28 October 2018 after the financial collapse of Teletypos, and continued broadcasting online.

On 1 November 2019 the MEGA branding, logo and programme library were auctioned and acquired by Alter Ego Media, which relaunched the channel on 17 February 2020.

Today MEGA broadcasts across Greece on Digea frequencies and streams live on megatv.com, with programmes also published on its official YouTube channel.
