TV channels Egypt
Cairo has always been the busiest television city in the Arab world, and the Egyptian lineup shows it: state channels grouped under the Nile brand, a dense field of private networks run from Cairo and Giza, newsrooms that operate from outside the country, and religious broadcasting in both its Coptic and Islamic forms.
The Nile channels
Egypt's state television splits its output across thematic channels carrying the Nile name. Nile News runs the round-the-clock news service, Nile Drama is devoted to Egyptian and Arab series, and Nile Sport holds football and other competitions. Nile Culture covers arts and culture, Nile Family addresses family audiences, and Nile Life Live carries lifestyle and general entertainment.
The private networks of Cairo and Giza
CBC Egypt, on air since 2011, is one of the capital's leading private networks, mixing drama, entertainment and talk. Sada El-Balad heads a Cairo media group whose signals include Sada Elbalad and Sada Elbalad 2, carrying news, talk shows and entertainment. Al Kahera Wal Nas and Al Kahera Wal Nas 2 are two more Cairo general channels, Mehwar TV broadcasts from Giza with news, political talk and entertainment, Alnahar TV adds entertainment programming, ONTV and El Watan News work the news end, and 4 Shabab TV is a further local signal.
News from outside Egypt
Part of Egyptian news television operates beyond the country's borders. Elsharq TV and Mekameleen TV broadcast Egyptian news and political commentary from abroad, while Alghad TV works as a pan-Arab news channel.
Coptic and Christian screens
Egypt's Coptic Orthodox community runs a substantial television presence. CTV Egypt is the channel of the Coptic Orthodox Church, broadcasting from Cairo, and Aghapy TV is a Coptic Christian channel. Al Karma TV, ABN Arabic and Altarek TV add further Christian broadcasting in Arabic. Beyond Egypt's borders the Sat 7 family - Sat 7 Arabic, Sat 7 Pars, Sat 7 Kids and Sat 7 Turk - has served Christian audiences across the Middle East and North Africa from Cyprus since the 1990s.
Islamic channels
Islamic broadcasting is represented by Alresalah TV, Al Rahma TV, AlNahar Noor and AL-Nada TV, a satellite channel devoted to Islamic teaching. Two further faith-oriented channels complete this part of the lineup: Al Hayat TV and The Kingdom Sat.
Comedy and youth
NTN Comedy holds the comedy shelf for Egyptian viewers, with sketch and comedy programming alongside the country's drama output.
