Viewers follow Mehwar TV for its news briefs, political discussion programmes and Egyptian drama series, with Arabic-language content making up at least 70 percent of its broadcast hours.

The channel's best-known format is 90 Minutes, the long-running talk and current-affairs show presented over the years by Moataz El-Demerdash, Osama Kamal, Iman El-Hosary, Mohamed Sherdy, Jehan Labib and Mohamed El-Baz.

El Lemma El Helwa (The Sweet Gathering) brings Maha Abu Auf, Karm Mahmoud and Nourhan Michel together for family table-talk, while Intibah (Attention) is Mona Iraqi's social-affairs format.

Mornings belong to Sabahak Endena (Your Morning With Us), whose presenters have included Dalia Abu Amira, Ahmed El-Shaer, Iman Selim, Haytham Saudi and Dina Yehia; Focus is presented by Sara Hassan and Mostafa El-Balak.

Service programming includes El-Tabib (The Doctor) with Bossi Meselhy and Bossi El-Ayady, and the religious Q&A Al-Muslimun Yatasa'alun (Muslims Ask) with Sheikh Salem Abdel Galil.

Motoring comes from Dos Benzin (Step on the Gas) with Tamer Bashir, and sport from Spot in Sport with Amr Fouad and Stad Mehwar (Mehwar Stadium) with Khaled El-Ghandour.

Public-life strands include Najahat Masriya (Egyptian Successes) with Mohamed El-Balak, Ahmed El-Hegawy and Mohamed El-Eisawy, Masr Ahla (Egypt, More Beautiful) with Wafaa Toulan, and the home-and-lifestyle Oda w Sala (Room and Hall) with Dalia El-Metbawly.

The channel has also hosted entertainment formats fronted by major Arab names: the first part of Sawla with singer Assala Nasri, the second part of Al-Musameh Karim with George Kordahi, and Ma'a Khairi (With Khairi) with Khairi Ramadan.

From Rateb to United Media

Mehwar went on air in 2001 as a general-entertainment and news channel founded by Egyptian businessman Hassan Rateb, with its studios in Giza, Greater Cairo. The channel later became one of the United Media Services networks, broadcasting to the Arab world on Nilesat in standard and high definition.
