TV channels Czech Republic
Czech television is built around a powerful public broadcaster, but around that core sit private news challengers, a music family born in 2002, and a quiet layer of regional and faith channels.
Six Services of Czech Television
The public broadcaster Czech Television fields a family of services. ČT1 is the main general channel, mixing news, documentaries, entertainment and sport. ČT2 turns to culture, documentaries and education beyond the mainstream. ČT24 is the corporation's round-the-clock news channel, on air since 2 May 2005. ČT sport covers Czech and world sport, and the pair launched on 31 August 2013 completes the family: ČT:D for children and ČT art for culture in the evening hours.
The News Challengers
CNN Prima News is the 24-hour news channel of FTV Prima, on air since 3 May 2020 under a partnership that brings Prima the CNN brand, content and training. A different news voice comes from Nastoyashcheye Vremya - Current Time - the Russian-language channel with its editorial office in Prague, created by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Voice of America. Regional news is the domain of Polar TV, the private television company of the Moravian-Silesian region broadcasting from Ostrava.
The Óčko Family and Other Music
Czech music television begins with Óčko TV, which started broadcasting on 30 September 2002 as the country's first music channel. Ócko Star has played hits from the 1980s onward since 2013, Óčko Expres adds a faster feed, and Retro Music Television leans on retro music and videos.
Around the Regions
Praha TV follows events in the capital, I-Vysočina TV serves the Highlands region, Východočeská televize V1 broadcasts for East Bohemia, and Polar 2 extends the Ostrava regional service. Thematic television includes the nature channel Natura TV and Fashion TV Czech & Slovak.
Faith Channels
Tv Noe is the Czech Christian television channel, and HopeTV is the Czech outlet of the international Hope Channel network of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
