Vísir online - Television live

Vísir Live Stream

Vísir (visir.is) is one of Iceland's leading online news operations, combining text journalism with a television section - Vísir sjónvarp - that carries live broadcasts and video reports. The site has been online since 1998 and is owned by the Icelandic telecom and media group Sýn hf.

History

Vísir.is was founded by Frjáls fjölmiðlun ehf and officially opened on 1 April 1998, originally publishing the news of the newspapers Dagblaðið Vísir, Viðskiptablaðið and Dagur on a single online platform. On 1 December 2017 the site was bought by Fjarskipti hf. - later renamed Sýn - together with the broadcaster Stöð 2 and the radio station Bylgjan from 365 miðlar. According to Gallup, visir.is was the second most popular website in Iceland as of February 2021.

Television service

Through its Sjónvarp section Vísir offers live broadcasts (Í beinni) of news events, press conferences, interviews and sports alongside its written coverage, making the site both a newspaper and a television outlet. The service streams through the official website and complements the group's broadcast brands Stöð 2 and Bylgjan.
