RÚV Live Stream

RÚV is the main television channel of RÚV, the Icelandic public broadcaster, launched in 1966. The free-to-air channel broadcasts news, sport, entertainment, cultural programmes, children's material and original Icelandic productions alongside American, British and Nordic content.

History

Television in Iceland began in 1955 with the American Armed Forces station at Keflavik. The Icelandic government studied a state-funded service from 1963, and RÚV's television service launched in 1966 from a transmitter on Skálafell mountain, financed by television licences. Today RÚV is a member of the European Broadcasting Union and selects Iceland's entries to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Programming

The channel's best-known programmes include the comedy sketch show Spaugstofan, the mystery drama Ófærð (Trapped) and the daily news bulletin Fréttir. RÚV is the Icelandic Olympic broadcaster and usually holds the rights to the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship.

Distribution

RÚV broadcasts free-to-air across Iceland and streams live through ruv.is, with its programmes available on its online platform.
