TV channels Albania
Television in Albania is young: private broadcasting only appeared in the second half of the 1990s, after decades of a single state screen, and it has grown into a lively mix where rolling news outweighs everything else.
The Public Anchor
RTSH 1 is the flagship television service of Radio Televizioni Shqiptar, the national public broadcasting company founded in 1938, which operates several radio and television channels over a domestic transmitter network and by satellite. It remains the reference point of Albanian public television.
The National Private Trio
Tv Klan went on air on 25 October 1997 as the first private network in the country and became the first to reach national coverage in 2001. Vizion Plus TV, established in Tirana on 16 September 1999, grew from a local station into a nationwide channel, while Top Channel, founded in 2001 by Dritan Hoxha, is a national commercial network at the core of the Top Media Group.
News Around the Clock
News is where Albanian television is densest. News 24 holds a special place as the country's first 24-hour news channel, founded in 2002 in Tirana. Ora News has broadcast from the capital since 31 January 2007, Report TV continues the rolling-news format, and ABC News - founded in 2010 and today part of the ABC Media Group - airs free-to-air from Tirana.
World News Brands in Albanian
A2 CNN broadcasts under the CNN brand licence in Albania, while Euronews Albania is the Albanian-language service of the pan-European Euronews network, pairing world coverage with Albanian editorial production. The news-and-talk format also lives on TV 7 Albania, a Tirana-based channel built around the day's agenda, live news blocks and studio discussion.
