NH is the television news service of NH Media, the regional public broadcaster for the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. Its reporting covers the province from Texel, the North Sea island at its northern tip, to the Gooi in the south, with local news, sport, traffic updates and background reporting on the region around Amsterdam and Haarlem.
A regional broadcaster with national duties
NH Media traces its origins to 1 January 1989, when the station began as Radio Noord-Holland with three hours of daily airtime, later expanded to a round-the-clock schedule. The organization now combines the television news service, NH Sport and the radio station NH Radio, renamed in 2016. Since November 2022 the broadcaster has been based in Hilversum, the Netherlands' main media town, having previously operated from Amsterdam.
One role sets NH apart from commercial local television: it is the official emergency broadcaster for North Holland, the station authorities turn to when residents must be informed about flooding, fires, storms or other incidents across the province.
News for a densely populated province
North Holland contains Amsterdam, Haarlem, Schiphol airport and a string of coastal towns and polders, and NH's agenda reflects that mix: municipal politics, transport and the Schiphol debate, coastal and water management, agriculture, and the cultural life of the region. Its television output is produced for a Dutch-speaking provincial audience and distributed alongside the broadcaster's online news service.
