Visir Live Stream

Visir is the video news service of Vísir, one of Iceland's best-known news outlets. Based in Reykjavík, Vísir publishes Icelandic-language news around the clock and complements its written reporting with a continuous video stream carrying news coverage, interviews and reports from across the country.

The outlet's history is unusually long for an online news brand: Vísir was founded in December 1910 by Einar Gunnarsson, originally as a newspaper distributed in and around Reykjavík. Over more than a century it changed owners and formats, and in the digital era it became a purely online news operation — one that Icelanders reach through its website and its live video service.

Part of the Sýn media family

Vísir belongs to the media portfolio of Sýn, the Icelandic group that also operates the television channel Stöð 2 and the radio stations Bylgjan, FM957 and X977. Within that group, Vísir functions as the digital newsroom, linking the group's television and radio journalism with online reporting.

News from a small country, in depth

The video service covers the agenda of a small but politically active island nation: Alþingi parliamentary affairs, municipal politics, the fishing and energy industries, weather and volcanic activity, and the social debates of the Reykjavík region. For the Icelandic-speaking audience at home and abroad, it serves as a direct window into the country's public life.
