The channel is named after a mountain range. Zagros TV - for the Zagros, the mountains that run through the Kurdish lands - is the Kurdish-language satellite channel of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, broadcasting from Erbil since 3 March 2007.

It is one of the older satellite channels of the Kurdistan Region, and its grid follows the region's politics closely: news editions on Kurdistan and Iraq, political talk with the region's figures, and cultural programs and documentaries on Kurdish history and heritage. The channel broadcasts in Kurdish and in high definition.

As the KDP's channel, Zagros TV speaks with the voice of the party that governs Erbil - a position that makes its news coverage one of the most followed in the region. Its output reaches the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the Kurdish diaspora worldwide, part of the Zagros Media Network which also runs an Arabic-language service.

On air for nearly two decades, it remains what its founders built: the mountains' own channel, watching the Kurdish story as it unfolds.
