Al Iraqiya is Iraq's public television broadcaster, part of the Iraqi Media Network (IMN). Established in the wake of Saddam Hussein's fall, it grew into a satellite and terrestrial public channel reaching around 85% of Iraq's population, broadcasting in Arabic.

Rebuilding Iraqi media

The channel emerged from the post-2003 effort to rebuild the country's media after years of censorship, initially as part of the IMN project, with the US Defense Department entrusting the Science Applications International Corporation with its early development. It became a symbol of the new Iraqi media landscape.

Programmes

The channel's output mixes news, cultural programmes and entertainment. Its best-known political format is Burning Issues, the popular political actuality programme.

Distribution

Al Iraqiya broadcasts terrestrially and by satellite, and streams live through the IMN network's platforms and its official YouTube channel.
