Chuxiong News Channel is the news television service of the converged media center of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture in central Yunnan, China. The center was formed in September 2023 by merging the Chuxiong Daily newspaper with the prefecture's radio and television broadcaster, whose television operations trace back to Chuxiong Television, launched in 1987. The reorganized newsroom runs two television channels — this news channel and a public channel — together with radio frequencies, combining newspaper and broadcast reporting in a single multimedia operation.

News Bulletins and Public Affairs

The channel's flagship is 楚雄新闻联播 (Chuxiong News Broadcast), the principal bulletin covering prefecture politics, economic development and community affairs. It is complemented by 一周要闻, a weekly review of major stories, and shorter news updates through the day; the station runs around a dozen self-produced program strands in total. Its reporting teams also produce 问政楚雄·面对面 (Wenzheng Chuxiong: Face to Face), an accountability program in which local officials answer public complaints on air — in one widely noted case, a broadcast exposing unpaid wages at a local employer led Chuxiong City authorities to recover the money for the affected worker.

Civic coverage has a dedicated slot in 民情直通车 (Public Concerns Direct Line), built around viewers' everyday problems, while current-affairs magazines such as 彝州观察 (Yizhou Observer) and 彝州党风廉政 follow local governance. "Yizhou", a traditional name for the prefecture, recurs across the station's output.

Yi Culture and Regional Features

Beyond daily reporting, the news channel carries 文化大观 (Culture Panorama), a cultural slot that premiered 乡愁楚雄 (Nostalgia in Chuxiong), a ten-episode documentary series portraying the Yi homeland produced by the station. Yi heritage is also the subject of 彝乡·彝韵 (Yi Homeland, Yi Charm), whose episodes explore the prefecture's intangible cultural traditions, from festival customs to Yi gourd craft. The documentary strand 楚雄纪事 (Chuxiong Chronicle) records local history and contemporary life, while 彝州经济八面观 follows the regional economy and 彝州看天下 looks beyond the prefecture.

Education and Public Service

Practical programming includes 楚雄技师, devoted to skilled trades and technician training, and 彝州警方 (Yizhou Police), a public-security magazine covering local law enforcement. Together with the information forum 信息大家说, these strands give the channel a service orientation alongside its bulletins.

In August 2026, at Yunnan's provincial radio and television news conference, the media center behind the channel was named one of six prefecture outlets honored for their 2025 converged-media news contributions. Chuxiong News Channel remains the primary television source of prefecture news for the towns and counties of the Yi autonomous prefecture.
