Pluto TV Record News is the Brazilian news channel Record News carried on the Pluto TV platform. The channel belongs to Grupo Record and broadcasts in Portuguese, concentrating on national headlines, politics, the economy and international affairs.
Record News went on air at eight in the evening on 27 September 2007, a date chosen to mark the fifty-fourth anniversary of Record. The group invested seven million dollars in equipping the channel, which started with 150 dedicated journalists and a hundred staff in other roles, working in a newsroom of a thousand square metres divided into sixty positions and a recording studio.
Origins
Planning for the channel had begun between late 2006 and early 2007, when the leadership of Record set out to strengthen its journalism, try new formats and find talent for the parent network. Because Rede Mulher had wide UHF penetration in hundreds of Brazilian municipalities, it was decided that the older station would give way to the new network once it launched.
In early February executives travelled to Atlanta to study the structure of CNN, the model the group had in mind, and the launch followed in September with national coverage built on Record's own stations and affiliates.
Access
On Pluto TV the channel is delivered over the internet with adaptive bitrate and Portuguese subtitles, and it remains available on satellite and cable systems across Brazil.
