News12+ Hudson Valley Live Stream

News 12+ Hudson Valley is the extended service of the News 12 Networks for the counties north of Westchester, carrying live events, public meetings and continuous coverage for viewers in Rockland, Orange, Ulster and Dutchess.

The region stretches from the Tappan Zee crossing and the Palisades north through Newburgh, Middletown, Poughkeepsie and Kingston to the Catskills, and its news is shaped by that distance: commuter routes, water and land use, agriculture and tourism, and the hospitals and schools that serve scattered communities.

Flooding along the rivers and the reservoirs that supply New York City are recurring subjects, as are the prison closures and development projects that have changed the area's employment base.

The Network

News 12 belongs to a chain of regional cable newsrooms covering the New York metropolitan area for Optimum Communications. The channels broadcast continuously and leave Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island to others, serving the outer boroughs, the northern suburbs and neighbouring states instead. News 12 Long Island went on air on 15 December 1986, the creation of Cablevision and the first twenty-four-hour regional cable news service in the United States. Further channels followed as Cablevision expanded, and the network passed to Altice USA with the 2016 acquisition of the company.

Access

A subscription wall introduced in December 2005 charged readers outside the viewing area for the network's website and app, while keeping the site free for Optimum, Spectrum and Xfinity subscribers. The rule was used in advertising against satellite and telephone-company television. Reporting in October 2016 described anchor desks and studio work moving to New Jersey and Long Island as the Westchester and Connecticut operations were consolidated, with local newsrooms remaining where they were.
