CBS News Sacramento Live Stream

CBS News Sacramento is the local streaming news service built around KOVR, channel 13, the CBS outlet for the Sacramento area. The station is licensed to Stockton and owned and operated by CBS Television Stations alongside the independent station KMAX-TV, channel 31, with studios on KOVR Drive in West Sacramento.

Its transmitter stands in Walnut Grove, California, on the flat farmland south of the capital where several of the region's signals are sited.

The Station

After an application process that stretched back to 1948, KOVR began broadcasting in September 1954 from studios in Stockton and a transmitter atop Mount Diablo. That facility gave it wide coverage from San Francisco to Sacramento, but the station could not obtain a network affiliation in the San Francisco market and had to carry the programming costs of a Bay Area station. The licence was later moved to serve Sacramento directly, and the newsroom settled in West Sacramento.

Streaming Output

The service carries the capital region's reporting beyond the broadcast schedule: breaking stories from Sacramento and the surrounding counties, state government and the Legislature, drought and water policy, wildfire coverage, and the region's agriculture and technology economy.

The newsroom reports across the Central Valley as well as the metropolitan area, with attention to the communities between Stockton, Modesto and the foothills.
