CBS News Detroit Live Stream

CBS News Detroit is the local streaming news service built around WWJ-TV, channel 62, branded CBS Detroit. The station is owned and operated by CBS Television Stations, shares studios on Eleven Mile Road in the Detroit suburb of Southfield with WKBD-TV, and transmits from Oak Park, Michigan.

The Station

Channel 62 was founded as WGPR-TV in 1975 by William V. Banks and the International Free and Accepted Modern Masons, as an extension of radio station WGPR. It was the first Black-owned television station in the continental United States, and although its ambitious programming plans for the Black community were constrained by money and economics, the station produced several locally notable shows and maintained a fully staffed news department.

CBS acquired the station in 1995 and it became the network's Detroit owned-and-operated outlet, taking the WWJ-TV call sign from the radio heritage of the city.

Streaming Output

The service carries Michigan's reporting beyond the broadcast schedule: breaking stories from Detroit and the surrounding counties, weather and traffic, the auto industry and the state's manufacturing economy, city politics and the courts.

Sport has a strong place, with the city's professional teams and the state's college programmes, and the newsroom covers community affairs across Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

Access

CBS News Detroit streams continuously over the internet from the CBS interactive video network and is available through the CBS News website, app and connected televisions.
