TV channels Canada
Canadian television reads like the country itself: national newsrooms, a parliamentary channel from Ottawa, the national sports and shopping institutions, and an unusually rich layer of diaspora broadcasting from Toronto and Montreal.
National and Local News
CTV News is Canada's national television news service, the news division of Bell Media's CTV network, and Global News rounds out the country's national news brands. French-language news is represented by RDI, Radio-Canada's information network. Toronto, the country's largest media market, is served twice: CityNews Toronto covers the city around the clock from its own newsroom, and CityNews 680 is its all-news companion on 680 AM with headlines, traffic and weather. Beyond Toronto, NTV News is the newsroom of NTV in St. John's, Newfoundland - the station known as Canada's Superstation and one of the country's oldest private broadcasters - while NTV Plus carries its stream. From the provinces, CHEK News covers Vancouver Island and CHAT - News Today is the television newsroom of Medicine Hat, Alberta.
Parliament, Sport and Shopping
CPAC English - the Cable Public Affairs Channel - is Canada's parliamentary and public affairs broadcaster from Ottawa, an independent not-for-profit service, and Quebec's legislature has its own screen in the Canal de l'Assemblée nationale. Sportsnet TV, owned by Rogers Sports & Media, is one of the country's leading sports networks, and The Shopping Channel - TSC - is Canada's home shopping channel, broadcasting live from Toronto.
Faith Broadcasting
Miracle Channel holds a unique place: Canada's first and only over-the-air Christian television station, broadcasting from Lethbridge, Alberta since 1996. Salt and Light TV is the national Catholic network, named after the theme of World Youth Day 2002 in Toronto. Reveil TV serves the francophone Christian audience, IIPC TV English is the English-language channel of Canada's Islamic Information and Dawah Centre, Erfan Halgheh TV teaches the Persian spiritual method known as the circle of gnosis, and Amazing Discoveries rounds out the faith block.
Multicultural and Diaspora Television
Canada's diasporas run a remarkable set of channels. Montreal's ICI Television is an independent multicultural station broadcasting as CFHD-DT. Toronto is the hub: Tamil Vision has pioneered Tamil television in Canada since 2001, Sooriyan TV24 adds Tamil music and entertainment, Parnian TV serves the Persian-speaking community, AzStar TV has broadcast for the Azerbaijani diaspora since October 2016, GH Canada TV is the Ghanaian Canadian channel, and Prime Asia TV and Pardesi TV serve South Asian audiences. Awaz Entertainment, whose name means voice, is the city's Urdu-Hindi satellite channel with news and entertainment.
Community and Educational Channels
At the most local level, NAC TV is the community-run station of Neepawa, Manitoba, and Canal Savoir is Quebec's educational channel - community television in its purest form.
