Canal Savoir Live Stream

Canal Savoir is the former name of CFTU-DT, a French-language educational television service based in Montréal, Québec. The current official site uses the Savoir média name. The service grew from distance-learning television developed with Quebec educational institutions, linking its history to both broadcast television and adult education.

From distance learning to a TV station

The project began in the early 1980s as an educational television service connected with Télé-Université and Vidéotron. Quebec colleges and universities later joined its coordinating consortium. CFTU-TV began over-the-air broadcasts on 20 August 1986. The service adopted the Canal Savoir brand in 1997 and changed its name to Savoir média in 2019.

Educational subject matter

Canal Savoir’s historical television programming included documentaries and educational content about science, history, society and culture. These subjects reflect the channel’s instructional origins and its partnerships with educational institutions. It gave viewers a way to encounter academic topics through television, alongside programmes created for distance-learning audiences.

Current name and online searches

The official website now identifies the service as Savoir média, so Canal Savoir refers to an earlier brand rather than a separate current channel identity. People searching for “Canal Savoir live TV” or online television should look for the current Savoir média name and verify its available services there. A distinct live stream under the old Canal Savoir name was not confirmed.
