NHK World-Japan Live Stream

NHK World-Japan is the international service of NHK, Japan's sole public broadcasting organization. Headquartered in Tokyo, the channel broadcasts in English to a global audience, combining rolling Japanese and Asian news with documentaries, culture and lifestyle programming about Japan.

News from Japan in English

The channel's news block is anchored by NHK Newsline, the flagship bulletin that reports Japanese, Asian and international developments with the resources of NHK's domestic and foreign bureaus. Newsroom Tokyo provides a deeper daily look at the stories shaping Japan, produced by NHK journalists in the capital, while regular segments such as Asia Insight follow trends and social change across the wider region.

Beyond the headlines

NHK World-Japan is equally known for its factual slate. Somewhere Street wanders the streets of the world's cities through the eyes of local residents; Japanology Plus explains Japanese customs, crafts and everyday culture; NHK Documentary presents the broadcaster's long-form investigations. Seasonal coverage of grand sumo tournaments brings one of Japan's oldest sporting traditions to international viewers with English commentary.

A public broadcaster's global window

As the overseas arm of a public media organization, NHK World-Japan is positioned alongside services such as the BBC's international channels, France 24 and DW. Its remit is to present Japan — its politics, society, technology and culture — to the world, in English, around the clock.
