Launched as a cable network in 2001, it has since expanded to satellite and digital platforms while covering local, national and international developments.

Roots in Assam

The channel’s history began on March 4, 2001, when Prag News started as a cable-based television network. Its official profile links the newsroom to Assam and the wider Northeast, with a focus on timely reporting and stories that matter to local communities. The channel says it has grown beyond cable distribution over the years, developing its presence across satellite television and digital media.

Regional reporting and a broad news agenda

Prag News covers regional stories alongside national and international affairs. Its editorial subjects include breaking news, politics, governance and public policy, as well as business, the economy, technology, culture, lifestyle and social issues. The official site also organizes news around regional, national and international sections, and offers both Assamese and English language options. This combination gives the channel a local foundation while connecting Assam with issues from elsewhere in India and abroad.

Public-interest journalism across platforms

The broadcaster describes its mission as empowering society through responsible journalism, clear presentation of facts and ethical standards. It says truth, transparency and public interest guide its work. Alongside its television operation, Prag News maintains a digital news platform and publishes updates on a range of current-affairs and informative topics. Its newsroom leadership and reporting teams are listed on the official About page, reflecting an organization that combines regional reporting with broader editorial and digital operations.
