Gems TV is Britain's jewellery shopping channel, on air since 8 October 2004 and part of the Gemporia network operated by TGGC Limited. Broadcasting from Redditch, it turned gemstone retail into a television genre of its own and became familiar across the UK for its falling-price auctions.

The Falling-Price Auction

The channel's signature format works in reverse: prices on gemstone jewellery - tanzanite, opal, diamond and many other stones - fall live on air until the item sells. Gems TV helped bring this auction game to British screens and still runs it around the clock. Between the auctions, the schedule includes gemstone education, sourcing stories and features for collectors.

From the Mines to the Studio

Gemporia builds the channel on direct sourcing: buying stones at the mines and cutting out the middlemen, a claim the presenters repeat hour after hour and one backed by the company's own production facilities in Chanthaburi, Thailand, where gems are cut and set into jewellery for the channel's auctions. The company says this variety extends to rarities such as Block D tanzanite.

On Air Day and Night

The auctions continue day and night, making Gems TV one of the most distinctive voices in British shopping television: a countdown, a gem lesson and a bargain in a single sitting, where the price only ever moves down. Steve Bennett, one of the founders of the original 2004 channel, returned to ownership in 2010, and the Gems TV name continues on Freeview alongside Gemporia's online auctions.
