SBN - the Sonlife Broadcasting Network - is the global Christian television and radio network of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries, broadcasting around the clock from the Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Launched in 2007 as the successor to a telecast ministry that began in 1971, it carries a continuous schedule of Bible teaching, live services and southern gospel music to households across the United States and beyond, and its signal also streams live online.
The network grew out of one of American televangelism's longest-running broadcast operations. Jimmy Swaggart began weekly telecasts on Baton Rouge stations in 1971, expanded nationwide through the 1970s and 1980s, and by 1983 his program appeared on more than 250 television stations; the Sonlife Broadcasting Network consolidated that legacy into a 24/7 channel.
Teaching Programs from the Family Worship Center
The Message of the Cross is the flagship: a live one-hour round-table discussion in which Jimmy Swaggart and a panel of teachers study biblical topics and passages systematically.
Frances & Friends, hosted by Frances Swaggart, is a live broadcast that takes on current events and answers doctrinal questions, while A Study in the Word - a daily program lineage that dates to 1981 - works through genealogy, history, prophecy and end-time events verse by verse. Generation of the Cross brings the teaching to teenagers, with Paris Ragan and Shaun Murphy examining social issues from a biblical perspective.
Live Services, Classic Crusades and SonLife Radio
Live worship anchors the schedule: the Family Worship Center's congregation meets on Sundays and midweek, and its services - with Donnie Swaggart and his son Gabriel Swaggart, the congregation's pastor, preaching - go out live with the ministry's own singers and musicians. Classic Crusades revives Jimmy Swaggart's international crusade archives, pairing gospel music with the sermons of his stadium years.
The radio arm, SonLife Radio with flagship WJFM in Baton Rouge, is commercial-free and built on southern gospel and in-house teaching, while the ministry's Expositor's Study Bible - a King James Version study Bible with Swaggart's verse-by-verse commentary - extends the network's teaching onto the page. Spanish- and Portuguese-language program feeds serve the network's international audience.
From Ferriday to a Global Network
Jimmy Swaggart (1935-2025) was born in Ferriday, Louisiana, a cousin of rock-and-roll pioneer Jerry Lee Lewis and country star Mickey Gilley. Ordained by the Assemblies of God, he preached across the American South from 1955, founded the Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge in the late 1960s and moved to television in 1971. After the denomination revoked his credentials in 1988, the ministry continued as an independent, non-denominational work.
Swaggart sold more than 15 million gospel records, earned a Grammy nomination in 1980 and was inducted into the Southern Gospel Hall of Fame shortly before his death on 1 July 2025 at the age of 90. The network he built carries on from the same Baton Rouge campus, with the fourth generation of the family - Gabriel Swaggart - pastoring the Family Worship Center.
