Fox 25 Boston Live Stream

Boston 25 - WFXT - is the Fox affiliate of Boston, Massachusetts: the largest Fox affiliate in the country that the network itself does not own, though Fox has owned it twice. Owned by Cox Media Group and broadcasting from studios on Fox Drive in Dedham with its transmitter in Needham, channel 25 serves one of the nation's largest television markets with Fox programming and the Boston 25 News operation, and its channel also streams live online.

Few big-market stations have an origin story as unlikely as this one: channel 25 signed on as a religious broadcaster - the call letters stood for "Christ (X) in New England" - before becoming a Fox station, a Boston brand, and eventually the biggest independent Fox affiliate in America.

Boston 25 News

Boston 25 News covers Greater Boston, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and New England from morning to late night, with a weather desk built for the region's temperament - nor'easters that dump feet of snow, hurricanes that ride up the coast, and the heat waves and fog in between. The station's live streaming operation extends the newscasts around the clock, with the linear streaming channel carrying continuous coverage, and Boston's sports culture - the Patriots, the Red Sox, the Celtics, the Bruins - runs through the news blocks as the region's civic religion. Fox's national schedule, including NFL Sundays in one of football's most obsessive markets, completes the lineup.

From Christ in New England to Fox

Channel 25 signed on 10 October 1977 as WXNE-TV - the X stood for Christ - founded by Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network after five years of construction delays. The early schedule mixed family programming with religion: The 700 Club, the daily Mass from the Boston Catholic Television Center, westerns and classic reruns, with Tim Robertson, the founder's son, as program director. The 1980s brought a gradual secular turn - cartoons, sitcoms, the beloved Boston bowling program Candlepins for Cash - and the "Boston 25" brand, before CBN put its stations up for sale and News Corporation bought channel 25 to become a Fox owned-and-operated station. Even the handover was quirky: the outgoing CBN ownership refused to air Fox's very first program, The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers, deeming it unfit for its content guidelines. Fox owned the station from 1987 to 1990 and again from 1995 to 2014, before Cox Media Group acquired it - leaving WFXT the largest Fox affiliate the network does not own.

Dedham and Needham

Today's Boston 25 operates from studios on Fox Drive in Dedham, near the Boston-Providence Turnpike, with the transmitter on Cabot Street in Needham carrying the signal across eastern Massachusetts. The live stream, the video archive and the station's digital platforms put the whole operation within reach of any screen in New England - a station that began with a bowling show and a daily Mass, and now streams continuously to the market it has served since 1977.
