Pacific Coast Television Live Stream
Pacific Coast Television (PCT) is the public, educational and government (PEG) access station of Pacifica, California, and the San Mateo coastside. Operated by the non-profit Pacifica Community Television Inc., it airs on Comcast channel 26 in Pacifica and channel 27 along the coast, and is followed online through its live stream.
America's Community Television Pioneer
PCT traces its roots to the early 1960s, when "Studio 70" - a closed-circuit TV system run by students of Oceana High School - served as Pacifica's only local television, born of necessity: the city's foggy, hilly terrain made Bay Area over-the-air signals hard to receive. The first broadcasts were essentially radio shows with a bulletin board for video; by the early 1970s the station had moved to real television on Channel 8, and in 1972 it won an Emmy for those early broadcasts. In 1977 Pacifica Community Television Inc. was chartered as a California 501(c)(3) non-profit, becoming the PEG station for its community. The station describes itself as the longest-running public access station in America.
A Community Media Center
PCT gives residents a voice through training in television, radio and internet production and access to its facilities: members create their own TV shows, websites and podcasts. The schedule mixes community-produced series with local coverage - election forums and candidate debates, coastside events such as the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival, and programming for the area's schools and government - produced with an all-volunteer board and a small staff led by executive director Martin Anaya.
