Otvorena TV holds a unique place in Croatian broadcasting: launched on 25 May 1989, it was the first commercial television station in the former Yugoslavia and the first to work outside the state TV system. Founded in Zagreb a year earlier, it gave airtime to voices rarely heard on official television and became the country's leading local station during the transition years.

From Youth Channel to City Institution

Originally conceived as a youth station, OTV grew into the city television of Zagreb and even organised a network of Croatian local stations that shared a joint prime-time slot. Between 2010 and 2020 the channel was known as Jabuka TV, before returning to its historic name in October 2020. A whole generation of Croatian TV figures - Hloverka Novak-Srzić, Željko Pervan, Robert Knjaz, Danka Derifaj - took their first steps on this screen.

Talk, Music and One Late-Night Legend

The schedule mixes political and social talk shows such as Veto and Povećalo with the art magazine Obzori, the city chronicle Serbus Zagreb, the music program Jukebox and the food-and-wine Hrana i vino. The station's absolute cult classic remains Noćna mora Željka Malnara, the anarchic overnight talk show of Željko Malnar that turned night broadcasting into an art form.

Where It Stands Today

The Otvorena TV live signal covers Zagreb and the neighbouring counties of digital region D4, a potential audience of about a million and a half. Viewers who prefer to watch Otvorena TV online get the same unmistakably local Croatian TV channel that Zagreb has known for more than three decades.
