Sudan TV Live Stream
Sudan TV is the national television broadcaster of Sudan - the country's television service since December 1962 - one of Africa's oldest television services - based in Omdurman, across the Nile from Khartoum, serving a country of about 45 million people.
Six Decades of Sudanese Screens
Sudan TV began broadcasting in December 1962 from the Khartoum region - the three municipalities of greater Khartoum, Omdurman and Khartoum Bahri - and became a regular national broadcaster within a year. General Mohamed Talat Fareed established the station as the national service, with a West German broadcaster supplying technical support, cameras and recorders; colour transmission arrived in 1976.
War and Port Sudan
On 15 April 2023, at the start of the civil war, the station was attacked by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and stopped broadcasting; its building was occupied, its studios destroyed and its equipment and vehicles lost, and the service moved its headquarters to Port Sudan - where it continues to operate from.
Programming
The schedule combines national news bulletins with prayers and Quran recitation, children's programmes, talent contests, dramas, sports and documentaries - the cultural features and coverage of Sudanese events that have filled the service since the early years.
