Al Sunnah Al Nabawiyah TV Live Stream

Al Sunnah Al Nabawiyah TV - Sunnah TV - is the Saudi state channel that broadcasts around the clock from the Prophet's Mosque in Medina. Transmitting began on 30 Dhu al-Hijjah 1430 of the Hijra, at the end of 2009, in the reign of King Abdullah, and the channel has not left the air since.

Every prayer, described live

The channel's core is the daily cycle of prayer at the mosque. Each of the five prayers is carried live with spoken commentary from the channel's announcers, who describe the scene for viewers watching from around the world - the rows of worshippers, the imam, the movement of the congregation - so that a listener who cannot see the picture still understands what is happening in the sanctuary. Between the prayers the screen returns to live views of the mosque.

Hadith between the prayers

Outside prayer times the channel reads from the traditions of the Prophet, and the name of the channel comes from this: the Sunnah is what it puts on air. The readings are deliberately plain. The channel's announcers are chosen for clear, well-articulated voices, and they recite the hadith without the dramatising effects, emotional colouring or shifting tones that would alter its meaning - the text is delivered as text.

The Medina television centre

Sunnah TV is run by the Medina television centre under the Saudi Broadcasting Authority, and its director is Azzeldin bin Abdullah Katib. Among the voices associated with the channel are Hamad al-Duraihim, Abdullah al-Asmari and Abdulrazaq al-Ulaywi. Its sister service is the Saudi Quran TV, and the two together give the holy cities a permanent place on the country's television.
