Moldova 1 is the public television channel of the Republic of Moldova and the country's first television service. It began broadcasting on 30 April 1958 at 19:00, when the territory between the Prut and the Nistru was part of the Soviet Union, and today operates within the national public broadcaster Teleradio-Moldova (TRM), financed mainly from the state budget.

History

Construction of the transmission antenna for the new television service began in September 1957 and was completed three months later: a 196-metre metal mast in Chișinău carried the first signal to Moldovan viewers. The infrastructure has been rebuilt several times since, and the channel is now distributed on digital terrestrial television, cable and satellite platforms alongside its online presence.

Programming

Moldova 1 is a generalist public channel: its best-known service is the newscast Mesager, complemented by cultural, educational, sports and entertainment programming in Romanian and Russian, produced by TRM's studios in Chișinău.
