Toyor Aljanah (Arabic: طيور الجنة, "Birds of Paradise") is a Jordanian satellite television channel dedicated to children. Launched in 2008 via the Nilesat satellite and now also carried on Arabsat, it is based in Amman, Jordan, with broadcasts from Bahrain. The channel built its identity on children's songs and music videos, using child presenters so that young viewers see their peers on screen, and its programmes keep a deliberate family atmosphere.
From a Children's Choir to a TV Channel
The project grew out of the Toyor al-Janah children's choir, founded in 1994 by the Palestinian-Jordanian producer Khaled Maqdad. The choir's success across the Arab world led Maqdad to establish the television channel of the same name in 2008, with the troupe continuing to travel to Arab countries to present shows and sing before live audiences.
Songs Heard Across the Arab World
Music remains the heart of the channel: clips produced by Toyor Aljanah are distributed widely online, where the official channel counts more than 30 million subscribers and many videos reach hundreds of millions of views. The music video Mama Brought a Baby (ماما جابت بيبي) by Jana Miqdad passed one billion views. Alongside the music clips, the grid carries programmes and educational content for children.
Sister Channels and Languages
The group expanded with Toyor Aljanah 2, a second channel that operated in 2011-2012 with clips, programmes and cartoons, and Toyor Baby, a satellite channel for the youngest viewers managed by Khaled Miqdad. On YouTube the group also launched localised versions of Toyor Baby in English, Turkish - under the name Bebek - and French, taking its children's songs beyond the Arabic-speaking audience.
