The first thing QVC ever sold was a shower radio, price $11.49. It was 24 November 1986, and the American channel that Joseph Segel had just launched would go on to sell billions of dollars of merchandise the same way - live, on television, around the clock.

QVC - the name stands for Quality, Value, Convenience - grew from that first broadcast into one of the world's largest television shopping brands. Today it broadcasts not only in the United States but in Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy. QVC Japan is the channel's Japanese arm, running the same format in Japanese.

The 24-Hour Shop Window

The grid is a rolling presentation: presenters introduce the day's products live - fashion and beauty, jewelry, homeware, electronics and food - with demonstrations, guests and limited-time offers. Each hour is a new product or a new theme, and the phone lines and the website are open the whole time.
