Perth is the most isolated big city on earth - closer to Jakarta than to Sydney - and its radio station has to be its own. 6PR, on 882 AM, has been Perth's news and talk station since 1931, the voice of Western Australia's capital through nearly a century of the state's life.

Perth's Conversation

The station's schedule is classic Australian talkback: morning and drive-time presenters, open phone lines, the day's news and a great deal of sport - in a state that cares about its football deeply. When something happens in Perth or in the West - a mining story, a political fight, a football final - 6PR is where the argument about it happens, live, with the listeners on the line.

The station's presenters are Perth institutions in their own right, and its newsroom covers Western Australia closely: the politics at Parliament House, the mining boom and its cycles, the communities of a state that is a world of its own.

The West's Own Voice

6PR belongs to Nine Radio, the same family as Melbourne's 3AW, and it shares that network's talk format. Broadcasting since 1931, it is one of Australia's oldest stations still on the air - Perth's voice, on AM and online, for the most isolated capital city in the world.
