News12+ Long Island Live Stream

News 12+ Long Island is the extended service of the News 12 Networks on the island where the group began, carrying live events and continuous coverage for Nassau and Suffolk from the Queens border east to Montauk.

Long Island is where the network's history starts: News 12 Long Island went on air on 15 December 1986 as the first twenty-four-hour regional cable news service in the United States. The plus service extends that newsroom's reach to events needing more time than a bulletin allows.

The coverage follows an island economy of commuters, defence and aerospace contractors, farming on the North Fork and tourism on the South Shore, together with the shoreline erosion and storm flooding that have become permanent subjects for the coastal towns.

The Network

The channel is one of the News 12 Networks, a chain of regional cable news services in the New York metropolitan area operated by Optimum Communications. Every service in the group broadcasts twenty-four hours a day and attends to the territory outside Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. The group's history starts on Long Island, where Cablevision launched News 12 on 15 December 1986 as the country's first twenty-four-hour regional cable news service. Other channels were added across the Cablevision footprint over the following years, and Altice USA continued the operation after buying the company in 2016.

Access

Since December 2005 the network's website and app have required a subscription from people living outside the viewing area and have been free to Optimum, Spectrum and Xfinity subscribers, an arrangement used in marketing against satellite and telephone-company television. In October 2016 newspaper reports described the consolidation of the Westchester and Connecticut operations, with studio and anchor work moved to New Jersey and Long Island.
