News12+ Connecticut Live Stream

News 12+ Connecticut is the extended service that the News 12 Networks operate alongside their main state channel. Where the primary feed follows a fixed schedule, the plus service stays with an event for as long as it runs.

That approach suits the material a regional newsroom covers at length: news conferences, court proceedings, public meetings, election nights and the long hours of a storm, when viewers want the picture to continue rather than a summary every half hour.

The output comes from the same Connecticut newsroom, so the reporting, the presenters and the sources are those of the main channel; the difference lies in duration rather than in editorial line.

The Network

The News 12 Networks are the group of regional cable news channels serving the New York metropolitan area and owned by Optimum Communications. Each channel runs rolling news around the clock and concentrates on the part of the metro area outside Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. The chain began with News 12 Long Island, which Cablevision launched on 15 December 1986 for its Long Island subscribers, making it the first twenty-four-hour regional cable news service in the United States. Cablevision then extended the model across its footprint, and Altice USA, the buyer in 2016, kept the operation running.

Access

In December 2005 the network put its website and mobile app behind a subscription for people living outside the viewing area, offering the site free to Optimum, Spectrum and Xfinity subscribers, a policy used in marketing against satellite and telephone-company television. In October 2016 reports described the consolidation of the Westchester and Connecticut operations, with anchor desks and studio work moving to New Jersey and Long Island while local newsrooms stayed in place.
