CBS News Bay Area Live Stream

CBS News Bay Area is the local streaming news service built around KPIX-TV, channel 5, branded CBS Bay Area. The station is licensed to San Francisco and serves the whole Bay Area, and it is owned and operated by CBS Television Stations as a sister to KPYX, channel 44.

The Station

KPIX signed on the air on 22 December 1948 as the first television station in Northern California and the forty-ninth in the United States. It was originally owned by Associated Broadcasters, the company behind radio station KSFO, and its first signal came from the top of the Mark Hopkins Hotel on Nob Hill before moving to a shared tower on Sutro.

The station now shares studios at Broadway and Battery Street in the North Waterfront district with KPYX, and its transmitter stands atop Sutro Tower, the landmark mast that carries most of the region's television signals.

Streaming Output

The service carries the newsroom's reporting beyond the broadcast schedule: breaking stories from San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose and the Peninsula, traffic on the bridges and freeways, weather from the coast to the inland valleys, and coverage of the region's technology and business economy.

Local politics, housing, education and the Bay Area's cultural life fill the rest of the schedule, with reporters filing from across the nine counties.

Access

CBS News Bay Area streams continuously through the CBS News platform and app, which hosts the national channel and the group's local services together, and it is available on connected televisions and streaming players.
