Al Ekhbariya Live Stream

Al Ekhbariya, الإخبارية, is a Saudi news and current affairs satellite channel based in Riyadh. It was launched on 11 January 2004, and its first director set the aim of presenting a new image of the Gulf Arab state to the wider region and the world.

Newsroom

The channel set a marker in Saudi broadcasting when it hired several Saudi women: its first bulletin was read by Buthaina Al-Nassr, the kingdom's first female news presenter. Correspondents are stationed across the Middle East, Europe and America, giving the channel coverage of international stories as well as domestic affairs.

Output follows the pattern of a state news service: hourly and half-hourly bulletins, live coverage of official events, interviews with ministers and officials, and analysis programmes on politics and the economy. Religious and cultural programming sits alongside the news, reflecting the channel's public-service remit.

Ownership and Transmission

Al Ekhbariya is state-owned and run by the Ministry of Media as part of the Saudi Television network, the same structure that operates the country's other public channels. It is transmitted to the Middle East and the Arabic-speaking world from the Badr 4 satellite at 26 degrees east, and streams continuously online through its own platforms.

Its website, alekhbariya.net, publishes rolling news in Arabic and carries the live signal, and the channel distributes clips through its video accounts.

Audience

The station addresses Arabic-speaking viewers in the Gulf and beyond, and its editorial line follows the priorities of the Saudi state: official announcements, economic policy, the pilgrimage and the country's international relations.
