TV channels Monaco
Monaco's television is small in territory but long in history: the Principality hosted one of Europe's early private broadcasters and today fields a modern public service.
How television came to Monaco
Monaco's broadcasting story began in 1954 with Télé Monte-Carlo, one of Europe's first private television stations, broadcasting from the Principality to a wide region. The public era took shape in 1995 with the launch of Monaco Info, the state news channel, and reached its current form in 2023, when the general service relaunched as TV Monaco.
Télé Monte-Carlo was inaugurated by Prince Rainier III on 19 November 1954, the national day, from a powerful transmitter on Mont Agel whose signal reached deep into France and Italy. In April 1956 it carried the Prince's wedding to Grace Kelly across Europe by Eurovision, and in 1973 it introduced colour. The channel later drifted into the French market and today belongs to the TF1 group, which left the Principality to rebuild a television voice of its own.
The public channels
TV Monaco carries the Principality's general programming - national events, culture and sport, from the Grand Prix week to the National Day ceremonies. Launched on 1 September 2023 under Prince Albert II and partnered with the francophone network TV5Monde, it builds its schedule around the environment, news, sport and the art of living, broadcasting terrestrially from Mont Agel and by satellite towards Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Monaco Info remains the dedicated news channel of the Principality: created in 1995 as Monaco à la Une and renamed in 2003, it is run by the government's communication department and follows the Sovereign's official activities, the institutions and the calendar of Monegasque events each evening.
