Sahara 24 Live Stream

Sahara 24 is the 24-hour news channel of Sahara Media, the Mauritanian media organization behind one of the country's pioneering news websites. Broadcasting in Arabic from Nouakchott, the channel covers Mauritanian national affairs and the wider Sahara and Sahel region.

From a news website to a TV channel

Sahara Media first built its name online: its news portal describes itself as the leading news site in Mauritania and the Sahara region, and that reporting operation now feeds the television channel. Sahara 24 carries news bulletins, political talk shows and field reporting, extending the group's journalism into continuous video.

Covering Mauritania and the Sahara

The channel's agenda reflects its geography: Mauritanian politics and government, the economy of a country bridging North and sub-Saharan Africa, and the security and social issues of the Sahara-Sahel belt. Regional affairs — from Mali and Senegal to the Western Sahara question — sit alongside domestic coverage in its bulletins.

In a media market long dominated by state broadcasting, Sahara 24 represents Mauritania's private media sector: an independent news organization that has turned an established web operation into a round-the-clock television news service.
