Lietuvos ryto TV was born from a newspaper. When the Lietuvos rytas publishing group - the biggest daily in Lithuania - launched a television channel on 12 October 2008, it brought a newsroom culture that television could not buy: the habits of a paper that had spent years breaking stories.

The channel replaced the older 5 kanalas service and made its name on journalism. Its grid is news-heavy by design: the Reporteris information program airs several editions a day, Lietuva tiesiogiai takes the country live, and the weekly review 24/7 sums up what mattered. The talk show Valanda su Valatka gives politicians and public figures an hour of hard questions.

The ownership has changed - the media company Singing Fish acquired the channel in 2019 - but the newspaper DNA remains. The schedule fills the gaps between the news with documentary cycles on Lithuanian life, the German detective series Senis, and Krepšinio pasaulyje for a country that treats basketball as a second religion. From its studios on Gedimino prospect in Vilnius, the channel works under the slogan Teisinga kryptimi - "in the right direction".
