News J is a Tamil-language news channel headquartered in Nungambakkam, Chennai, in the state of Tamil Nadu. Launched on 14 November 2018 as the successor to Jaya TV News, the channel is named in honour of J. Jayalalithaa, the late AIADMK leader and former chief minister of Tamil Nadu.

A Channel Born of State Politics

News J is run by Mantaro Network Private Limited, a company founded by former Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami together with C. Ve. Radhakrishnan, S. Dineshkumar, A. Vivek and K. Kubenthiran. Its first chief executive was W. Hansraj Saxena. The channel's close association with the state's political landscape shapes much of its coverage, with detailed reporting on the AIADMK, the state legislature and government decisions in Chennai.

Bulletins and Breaking Coverage

The evening schedule is anchored by fixed bulletins — Today 8PM Headlines and Today 10PM Headlines — that summarise the day's main developments in Tamil. Around the bulletins, the channel runs breaking coverage of incidents across the state, from court and police cases in districts like Karur to rail and road accidents and public events, keeping its reporters close to everyday Tamil Nadu life.
